Barbara Ortiz

Electronic Engineer and Data science developer

ABOUT

My name is Barbara Ortiz, an Argentinian electronic engineer working at the intersection of industrial systems, data, and automation.

My background combines industrial engineering environments with data analysis and software tools. I have worked in manufacturing, energy monitoring systems, and industrial data platforms, applying data-driven approaches to improve operational processes and system performance.

Currently, I work as a Production Technician at Avery Dennison in Ireland, supporting automated manufacturing systems and production operations. Previously, I worked at MSA Safety in electronic manufacturing and for Schneider Electric partner Abampere as a field engineer and energy specialist.

At Schneider Electric projects, I worked as a systems integrator certified as EcoXpert Critical Power Master, focusing on energy monitoring, power quality analysis, and industrial system integration. My work included installing and configuring UPS systems, power monitoring meters, and integrating industrial devices using Modbus TCP/IP and RS485 communications. I also worked with energy management platforms such as Power Monitoring Expert (PME) and supported data analysis of electrical systems and power quality.

Over time, my interests evolved toward industrial data and automation. I work with SQL, Python, and cloud tools to analyze operational data, build automated workflows, and generate insights from complex systems.

I am particularly interested in the intersection of industrial infrastructure, data engineering, and intelligent systems, applying analytics and machine learning techniques to real-world engineering problems.

I am also passionate about space, climate, and polar research. I spent a year living and working in Antarctica at Marambio Base as head of the scientific laboratory, supporting research operations in extreme environments. I currently collaborate with NASA citizen science initiatives involving satellite imagery and geospatial data.

I strongly believe in open-source technologies and collaborative innovation. Tools such as Python and SQL play a central role in my work, helping transform data into knowledge that supports better decisions in engineering, energy systems, and industrial operations.

Education

I studied Electronic Engineering at the National Technological University in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I also completed 60% of a Mechanical Engineering degree at the same university. Early in my career, I worked as a programming instructor teaching C and C++, and later as a university teaching assistant in electronics.

I enjoy continuous learning and regularly explore new programming languages, technologies, and tools. My native language is Spanish, and I speak English at an advanced level, German at an intermediate level, and have basic knowledge of Portuguese, Italian, and French.

I have completed several technical training programs including the Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate, Generative AI training at SAP, Artificial Intelligence certification by ICDL Ireland, and the Microsoft Azure AZ-900 certification. I am currently preparing for the Cisco CCNA certification and continuing my studies in Full Stack development and data science programs.

Curiosity and problem-solving drive my work. I am particularly interested in how data can be used to understand complex systems and support better decisions in engineering, energy systems, and industrial processes.

Hobbies

Outside of work, I enjoy cycling, mountaineering, landscape photography, and astrophotography. I also like traveling, learning about different cultures, and documenting experiences through writing and photography. In quieter moments, I paint and practice piano. I enjoy the balance between analytical work and creative expression.

I am a curious person who enjoys connecting with people from different cultures and backgrounds wherever I live.
